Reading through the Gospel of Luke, I was reminded of the time that Jesus and his disciples made their way on a boat to Gerasenes (Gadarenes). The passage says that as they sailed, “a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger” Luke 8:23. However, in the midst of the storm, Jesus was found sleeping (at rest and at peace) below. Was it because He wasn’t aware of the danger due to a deep sleep? Perhaps so, but in a windstorm that caused the boat to be filling with water, many adults will be awaken by the violent tossing of the waves. Perhaps it was to teach the disciples a lesson about faith and trusting in the Lord in the midst of the storm.
As a nation faced with uncertainty surrounding Brexit and the decisions we make by our choice of voting, let us use this opportunity to seek the ONE who knows the future and has the authority to speak peace into our political storm.
Just as the disciples recognised that they were at loss in their own strength and ability, and called out to Jesus, let us also use this time to pray and seek God’s sovereign will for this nation.
Be hopeful, because God is not done with this nation.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
