Last weekend, I was in the living room looking out at the new turf that was laid a couple of weeks ago. It looked beautiful and well laid; but as I looked, I saw what appeared to be an odd-looking leaf sticking out from the ground. As I looked closer, I realised it was a weed plant growing in my beautiful lawn. Without hesitation, I grabbed it and started to pull it out. I realised that only the leaves came out as the roots still remained in the ground. I decided to put my finger deeper into the soil to uproot it. To my surprise, it was much deeper than I expected. It took a few strong pulls to get it all out.
As I reflected on that, I was reminded of the passage that said, “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:6-7).
Brothers and sisters, there are many things out there that would look to uproot us from our faith. Questions may linger about the love of God and the sufferings we experience. Ideas, philosophies, scientific theories, popular trends and opinions (etc) may look to sway us, but let us be rooted, built up and established in Christ. For in Him, we have hope, not only in this life but in the life to come. In Him, we have a friend and a saviour who will not leave us nor forsake us. In Him we have a comforter that gives us peace that surpasses all understanding and transcends all that life throws at us. He is our all in all, so stay rooted in His Word, stay rooted in His Love, stay rooted and committed to the relationship you have been called into, because one day, you would know it was all worth it.
