THE JOURNEY FROM HEAVEN TO EARTH

picture-blog-Jesus in the manger

Often when we think of the Christmas story, we tend to focus on angels singing, the wise men from the east carrying gifts and Jesus being born in a manger. These are all wonderful truths of the birth of Christ, but rarely do we think of what the preparation and journey from Heaven was like.

As Christians, we believe that Jesus is the Second Person of the Trinity, meaning He is not only man but also God. Scripture states that, “He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:15-16). From this passage and other similar passages, we can start to grasp the divine identity of the person we call Jesus Christ.

If according to scripture, “by him all things were created”, then we can conclude that before He was born on this earth He was seated in Heaven, clothed with splendour and power with the Father and the Holy Spirit. For the sake of saving mankind, He laid aside His splendour, His royal robes; like how a wealthy man takes off his watch, his clothes, his shoes and his possession when he is about to be imprisoned for a crime. Think about it, how would you like to sleep rough on the streets or even in a stable with the unpleasant smell of animal dung after you had lived in a palace all your life? Nothing can prepare anyone for such a life, and when we compare the glory and beauty of Heaven, we can then perceive the love behind such sacrifice.

Over 2000 years ago, the author left His seat and became a character to rewrite the story of history; a story where mankind can once again be reconciled to God. Oh, such great love and mercy we have found in Christ Jesus our Lord! May this knowledge of sacrifice fill you with joy and peace during this Christmas season. Be encouraged by this.
