Advent is here – Newsletter 6 Dec 2014

ADVENT - it is all about Jesus!

We are now coming up to the second Sunday in this special time known as Advent. Advent is the start of the Christian year (Not 1 January!). It is a time and is a season of expectation and preparation as the Church looks forward to celebrating the birth of Christ and also when we look forward with Hope, Love, Joy and Peace to the time when Jesus will return again. In the Holy Scriptures, Jesus tells us a story to remind us of the importance of being continually prepared for his return:

MATTHEW 25 “Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. Five of them were foolish. Five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but didn’t take any olive oil with them. The wise ones took oil in jars along with their lamps. Then the groom arrived. The bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding dinner.”

Let us pray
Lord Jesus, Light of the world,
Take away our darkness, forgive our sins.
Make us people of light
Make us faithful to your word
that we may bring your light
to the waiting world
To the glory of God the Father.
AMEN

Please pray for Carol Vaughan and the team of Balsam Family Project as today (Saturday, 6 December) they are providing a Christmas party and lunch for over 50 needy families in the Didcot area (http://www.balsamfamilyproject.co.uk).

I am looking forward to catching up with many of you at church tomorrow.
Much love from David

MISSION UPDATE
Many of you will have met Rebekka Stredwick who has been to our church in recent weeks and has been staying with John and Isabella. Rebekka is off to South Africa in February as a CMS (Church Mission Society) Mission Associate. Rebekka says that she has very much appreciated the prayers and warmth of greeting she has received at Ridgeway. On behalf of the Church Family the Elders have made a donation towards her work. On Worlds Aid Day on Monday, Bekky was on BBC South Today talking about her return to South Africa to work with The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust. You can see more about the work of Hillcrest at www.hillaids.org.za. If you feel called to make to support Rebekka financially you can do so through the church by giving your cheque/gift to Gordon Brown (Our Treasurer) or alternatively via the web at www.give.net 20169441 . Thank you!
