Christmas Greetings – News 21 December 2013

Dear Friend

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (1 John verses 1 to 5)

It is wonderful to be able to share the good news of Christmas.  I have entitled this message “Christmas Greetings” as it is a time when we need to shrug off the world’s sometimes cynical discarding of Jesus from the story – I really dislike cards that say “Seasons Greetings”! We are celebrating the birth of Christ! Yesterday afternoon I was at All Saints Church in Didcot praying and talking with young and old people who are struggling to cope with the news of Jayden’s sad murder. A 17 year old who was known by many in our community. There were some tears being shed and then in came a young mum wheeling in a buggy with her baby son.  He just grinned at us all and it was a real sign of hope for the future. It reminded me of these verses about Jesus from Isaiah 9 :
“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
And so in the name of Jesus, I say to you “True Christmas Greetings – may you know the peace, love and blessing of Jesus at this special time”. AMEN
