I have a dream

Isaiah 1 verse 17: Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.Take up the cause of the fatherless;plead the case of the widow.

50 years ago in Washington there was a great event. For those who don’t know this week was the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, where King made his I Have a Dream speech (see at Youtube on http://youtu.be/smEqnnklfYs.) and challenged the racial inequality that existed in the US at that time. Here is an extract from his speech….”I have a dream today!

“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.”

Martin Luther King said these things based on his faith in Jesus Christ as his saviour.

When we get closer to Jesus and read the Scriptures we need to face up to the challenge of Who Jesus is, What He stands for and What He also calls us to do as His disciples.

There is the stunning scene in Nazareth at the Synagogue where He was brought up and puts it on the line: (Luke 4) Jesus stood up to read,  and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him.

Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

This morning in prayers at the mission we had a powerful time as we shared out loud in prayer our hopes and dreams for our communities and the nations we love. Maybe you have done so before but can I encourage you to speak out in prayer your dream to the Lord.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you are there to listen to us as we share our dreams with you. Lord, we cry out to you for the injustice and hurt that still impacts so many people in our communities  Please help us to be the type of Christians and Church who act for the needy and are there to give those who need it a second chance, We ask this in the name of Jesus our Saviour AMEN

God bless and much love from
Pastor David
