Weekly newsletter – 11 June 2013

Over the weekend one of my sisters celebrated a significant birthday by hiring a barge for the wider family and going for a picnic. We had a great time. No one drowned and we didn’t sink the barge! It was great to be able to slow down and enjoy each other’s company and the beautiful creation around us.

God created us in his own image and when we read Genesis 2 we read that he worked for 6 days and then He rested on the seventh day.

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

We are not designed to work all the time. Sabbath rest is good. If we are to be good at our work and also with our families/friends we need to be able to rest and unwind. I have known some friends over the years that find being busy is fine but the idea of doing nothing scares them. I know myself that sometimes slowing down is difficult. Sometimes other friends haven’t had the choice of slowing down because they need to work hard and long hours just to pay the bills. As a church we need to pray for our brothers and sisters in both these situations and offer practical support where we can.

Let’s pray:
Dear heavenly father, you taught us through your actions that having a regular break to enjoy your presence and creation is important. We pray that you will help us to enjoy the leisure time we get and to receive our re-creation from You. We also pray for our brothers and sisters who aren’t getting a regular break that you would bless them with some good rests and provide for all their needs. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus, Amen.

God bless and much love from
